Collins presents work on Weave News at media conference

Professor of Global Studies Dr. John Collins recently presented his work on the independent media project Weave News at the 2018 Union for Democratic Communications conference on "Media, Resistance, and Justice" held in Chicago on May 10-12.

As part of a panel on the theme of "Mobilizing Media as a Means to Critical Activism" that also featured presentations by scholars from Florida Atlantic University, the University of Westminster (London), and California State-Northridge, Collins presented a work-in-progress titled "Blogging for Critical Global Citizenship? Weave News and the Contradictions of (Neo)Liberal Education." His presentation drew on his experience in teaching a seminar on global news analysis and founding and leading the Weave News project, which celebrated its tenth anniversary at a conference held at St. Lawrence in September 2017.

One of the other panelists at the UDC conference, Dr. Christopher Robé of Florida Atlantic University, was recently interviewed by Weave News reporter Shanice Arlow following the Media, Techno-Political Action, and Social Justice Symposium held at Rutgers University.
