Steven Salaita lecture: "Academic Freedom, Palestine, and the Demands of Civility"
Dr. Steven Salaita was one of nine people named to the “2014 Influence List,” compiled by the Chronicle of Higher Education to highlight “academic newsmakers” who “shook up higher education by organizing, by speaking out, by pushing limits, and sometimes just by doing their jobs.” He is author of six books, most recently Israel's Dead Soul (2011). In this lecture, which is free and open to the public, Dr. Salaita will explore how notions of civility function in current debates around academic freedom. He will pay special note to the role of Palestine in various forms of campus repression. Dr. Salaita's visit is sponsored by the St. Lawrence University chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) with additional support from Academic Affairs, the Weave, and the Departments of Global Studies, Government, Sociology and History.
