The carbonate sedimentology laboratory hosts an excellent collection of carbonate sediments, rocks, cores, billets and thin sections. The collection was donated by Dr. Christopher Kendall, University of South Carolina, and contains samples from various classic carbonate localities, including Australia, Croatia, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Caribbean. This collection represents an excellent research training and research material where students use the SEM-CL and backscattered electron images in analysis of not only physical and chemical diagenetic processes like pressure solution, cementation, dolomitization and dissolution, but also in the fundamental study of internal structures of carbonate skeletal and non-skeletal particles, and micrite.
