Jeff Chiarenzelli and Sean Regan ’10

Jeff Chiarenzelli and Sean Regan ’10 of the United States Geological Survey participated in the orientation of the Adirondack High Peaks Summit Stewards personnel.   Chiarenzelli gave a presentation on the geology of the region while Regan took the summit stewards on a virtual field trip up the Bennies Brook slide to show them the geologic features they are likely to see during their daily climbs up to the summits.  The Summit Steward Program provides public education and information on the geology, biology, conservation, and natural features of the High Peaks Region.  During the summer the stewards greet the public on the summits of the most popular peaks, talking to as many as 600 hikers a day during the peak season.  Last summer over 35,000 visitors were educated.
