  • Amelia Oates got into the UW Applied Geoscience Master's program!
  • Our geology major, Ashley-Kate Durham '13 became the first woman in alpine skiing history to take first place in an event at an EISA Carnival competition Friday, when she finished first in the giant slalom at the University of Vermont Winter Carnival.
  • Multi-Element Analysis and Geochemical Spatial Trends of Groundwater in Rural Northern New York, a paper that Mike O'Connor and Matt Zabik published recently on their thesis work.
  • Sean Reagan ’10, a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, recently published part of his senior honor thesis with his adviser Jeffrey Chiarenzelli, Brian Cousens (Carleton University), and James McLelland (Colgate University).  Sean’s study was published in Geosphere, an on-line journal associated with the Geological Society of America, and documents an enriched asthenospheric origin of coronitic metagabbros of the Adirondack Mountains.  Coronitic gabbros have long been considered the parental magma for massif anorthosite which underlies the High Peaks region but their origin has been controversial.  Sean’s work has shed new light on the origin of these enigmatic rocks found almost exclusively in the Grenville Province of eastern Canada and its extension in the Adirondack Region. http://geosphere.geoscienceworld.org/cgi/content/abstract/7/3/694
