Artist's talk with Jingtao Liu
Jingtao Liu holds a doctorate of Design, Art & Literature from the Wuhan University of Technology and is currently a researcher at the Hubei Institute of Arts and Crafts, China. Liu works as a professional painter and is a senior national arts and crafts artist of China. Through his diverse explorations in both traditional and contemporary Chinese methods, his work simultaneously exemplifies the importance of global influence, as well as fostering traditional Chinese painting practices. Within three distinct bodies of work, Dr. Liu playfully weaves color theory, post-impressionistic abstraction, as well as challenging the viewers’ perception of realism within the contexts of religious constructs and the natural world. - Rachael M. Jones, visiting assistant professor of art & art history
Jingtao Liu's talk is presented in conjunction with Time, Space, Nature: Paintings by Jingtao Liu, presented in the gallery from October 17 to December 7, 2019.
