Students Use Skype to Teach English as Second Language

During the FYS seminar called "Teach English Abroad and Make a Difference" [spring 2012], students have an opportunity to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) to student groups in Rwanda and Taiwan. In addition to cross-cultural exchange, students gain an understanding about what is involved in teaching beginner ESL classes. Both situations are unique and students have been able to learn about life in these two countries. SLU students are also able to share their culture while also teaching new vocabulary and sentence structure. Students have been studying critical issues and pedagogies in teaching ESL during this spring semester 2012. Students are also actively engaged in research on these issues, with final research presentations given at the end of the semester.
