Music, Image, Place

Spring 2018

FRPG 2056
Instructor:  Michael Farley
Meeting Days/Times: Tuesday and Thursday 10:10 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
This course fulfills the FYS and ARTS general education requirements.

Two central questions: How does the place in which music is made affect the sounds that are made there?  How does one make sense in creative work?

We begin by creating a poetic image of a space that allows you to dream productively, in peace using Photoshop.  We accompany it with sound and music using Garage Band.  You truly, need no experience in using Photoshop and Garage Band. In the beginning… it’s university-level sandbox: later, it’s sand castles.

At the same time, we deepen your quest for making sense in writing and oral presentation. This semester, we pursue a deeper understanding of research methods and your ethical responsibility as a communicator, based around a research essay that describes a specific music scene. (The Tic-Toc is an example of a music scene, but it’s a forbidden topic!)
