Fine Arts Waste

St. Lawrence University Waste Management and Minimization Plan

Studio Specific:

Ceramics - Collect unused glazes containing toxic metals such as barium, cobalr, copper, chromium and lead for safe disposal.

Painting - A low-flashpoint solvent is used in a brush washing system to eliminate the flammable hazard posed by other solvents such as turpentine and mineral spirits.

Photography - Spent fixer is processed through a silver recovery system.  The silver is then recycled.

Printmaking - Spent etching solution is collected and recycled.

Contact the Chemical Hygiene Officer if you are not sure how to dispose of any waste generated in your studio.
