Approval of the Minutes

Sharmela and Suna

Old Business:

  1. Bill collected all ADA push button, elevator and ADA parking locations along with current elevator procedures and is sharing this information with Sharmela.

  1. NYS Fire inspections are still in progress.  Final academic building inspections are scheduled for the week of 12/17/2018 and final residence hall inspections will be at some point in January, 2019 after students return from break
  2. Suna requested review of the Drone policy at the next meeting. Certified people only can fly drones; all contractors and other professionals requesting drone privileges will need to be vetted. The committee reviewed the updated draft policy; the only question that remains is who will “own” the operation manual and where it should be posted; ie. Security Website, Student Handbook, etc.
  3. The NYS Fire Inspector brought it to Bill’s attention during fire inspections that we need to have a permit for any tent that exceeds 400 sq. ft.; Bill spoke with Village Code Enforcement Officer, Jeffrey Murray and he confirmed that permits will be required for every tent exceeding 400 sq. ft.

Tabled

1.      Marcus S. and Pat G. met with Becky Allen from SLC Public Health to discuss becoming a POD location again. They will work on an MOU and keep the committee advised.

New Business:

  1. Jill brought up Laser Pointer Safety Usage on campus. We discussed specs and laser limits that can cause retina damage without the individual even realizing it. Class 3R pointers are supposed to be 5mW or less in power, but often times dramatically exceed these limits. Suppliers may not test the actual output power of the pointers they are selling. The committee discussed having a campus PSA written explaining the dangers of these lasers. Jill will review with the radiation and laser safety committee what information she feels is necessary to get in the PSA and discuss with them how to handle it.

  1. A reminder to all staff that cell phone usage on golf carts is prohibited, just like driving a car.

Future Meetings:

There will not be a meeting in January, the next Safety Committee meeting will be held in the Torrey Conference Room, located in the Diana Torrey Health and Counseling Center from 9am-10am, February 1st, 2019.

It is requested that any new business to be added to the Agenda be forwarded to Susan Johnson no later than January 25, 2019.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
