Requirements for the English/Modern Languages Combined Majors

 

I.     English Core for All English/Modern Languages Combined Majors: 6 units

Students may complete a combined English/French or English/Spanish major by focusing their English core on either literary study or creative writing (I. A. or I. B).

A.        English Literature (6 units)

1.  250. Methods of Critical Analysis

2. 450. SYE: Senior Seminar

3. Two literature courses at the 200 or 3000 level

4. Two literature courses at the 300 or 4000 level

B.        English Creative Writing (6 units)

1.  250. Methods of Critical Analysis

2. 450. SYE: Senior Seminar

3. One literature course at the 200 or 3000 level

4. One literature course at the 300 or 4000 level

5. Two creative writing courses in the same genre, one at 200 level and one at 300 level

II.      French Requirements for the English/French Combined Major: 6 units

  1.  English requirements from above (6 units).

B.   French requirements (6 units):

1. 201. Advanced French

2. 202. Advanced French: Contemporary France

3. Two elective courses at the 200 or 300 level

4. Two elective courses at the 400 level

II.      Spanish Requirements for the English/Spanish Combined Major: 6 units

  1.  English requirements from above (6 units).

B.   Spanish requirements (6 units):

1. 201. Advanced Spanish

2. 202. Hispanic Cultural Studies

3. Two elective courses at the 200 or 300 level

4. Two elective courses at the 400 level

III.       Senior Project combining both fields (1 unit).

Total: 13 units
