St. Lawrence University has relationships with five engineering universities.
- Clarkson University - Potsdam, New York
- Columbia University - New York City, New York
- Dartmouth University - Hanover, New Hampshire
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) - Troy, New York
- University of Rochester - Rochester, New York
Each university has different entrance requirements and may have additional curricular requirements as well. These differences are documented below. It is also possible to attend an engineering program at a university that is not on this list, however this requires careful planning and consultation with the engineering director at St. Lawrence.
Clarkson University is a small research institution located in Potsdam, New York, about ten miles north of the St. Lawrence campus. In the past many St.Lawrence engineering students have chosen Clarkson as their engineering college. St. Lawrence students apply to Clarkson like any of transfer admission student. See Clarkson's transfer admissions web site.
While studying at St.Lawrence students can cross-register for courses at Clarkson University. See the Associated Colleges site for more information.
Clarkson requires two semesters of General Chemistry for all engineering majors. So Chemistry 104 must also be completed while at St. Lawrence.
St. Lawrence University has an articulation agreement with Columbia University and their Combined Plan Program. For detailed information about the Columbia Combined Plan visit the link for Columbia University on this site.
Dartmouth's Dual Degree Program in the Thayer School of Engineering has two different options; a 2-1-1-1 option where students study at St. Lawrence in years 1, 2, and 4 and at Dartmouth for years 3 and 5. The second option is the traditional 3+2 option, three years at St. Lawrence and then two at Dartmouth.
Admission to Dartmouth is competitive, though St. Lawrence students who are academically strong have an excellent track record of being accepted.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
RPI is a highly ranked engineering college located in Troy, New York. St. Lawrence 3+2 engineering combined students apply to RPI like any other transfer student that is applying to RPI. More information can be found on RPI's web site.
University of Rochester
St. Lawrence 3+2 students apply to the University of Rochester like any other transfer student. Admission to the University of Rochester is competitive.
