McNair Scholar to Present Research Poster at D.C. Event

A St. Lawrence University McNair Scholar has been selected for participation in a poster presentation at a conference in Washington, D.C.

Tonisha Kerr ’15 of Brooklyn, N.Y., will attend the Council on Undergraduate Research’s Posters on the Hill event, which will take place April 28 and 29 at the nation’s Capitol. She, along with her faculty mentor Professor of Economics Keith Evans, will present a poster of her summer research project, titled “Trends of Economic Development & Environmental Quality in China: An Application of the Environmental Kuznets Curve using CO2.”

This year, the Council on Undergraduate Research received nearly 600 applications, and only 60 were accepted for presentation. The two-day event will include an evening poster session and reception, where students will have the opportunity to speak directly to member of Congress and demonstrate how they have been impacted by research and educational programs funded by the U.S. Congress.

Tonisha is an active member of the St. Lawrence University community, serving as a teaching assistant in the Department of Economics; a community assistant with campus residence life; a peer tutor in economics, mathematics, and psychology; and a math mentor for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). In addition, Tonisha is the founder of the University’s Fashion Club, has served as a member of a search committee within the Academic Advising Department, and is vice president of Helping Out People Everywhere (H.O.P.E). An economics major with minors in mathematics and statistics, Tonisha is consistently on the Dean's list.

This semester, Tonisha is participating in St. Lawrence University’s New York City semester.
