A Community from Day One: The First-Year Program

The First-Year Program (FYP) is St. Lawrence’s flagship living-learning program—and it’s one of the oldest in the country. Its three main components (academic, residential, and advising) help first-year students grow accustomed to the pace and expectations of college life and their academic workload while fostering a sense of belonging in their new community.

Venture Forth: Making an Impact After St. Lawrence

In an ever-shifting world, St. Lawrence students see the need for change. They harness their creativity, compassion, and confidence to use their voice and make an impact after graduation--even in times of unknowns and uncertainty.

Within a year of graduation, 94% of recent St. Lawrence graduates are employed or in graduate school. Our Career Services Office and our alumni network (ranked 4th in the country by The Princeton Review) work together to empower current students and recent graduates ignite their purpose and carve their paths.

Laurentians always help other Laurentians, and our alumni network embodies the collaborative spirit of our community across generations. The signature SLU Connect career program offers ambitious students opportunities to connect with alumni leading their industries in cities across the country, including Washington, D.C.; Albany, NY; Burlington, VT; Big Sky, MT; Boston, MA; and San Francisco, CA.

Jacqueline Sovie '18 understood the powerful real-world applications of her liberal arts education and, with the help of the St. Lawrence alumni network, secured a job offer before her senior year of college. Hear about the connections with St. Lawrence alumni and parents that got her there.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Nestled in the shadow of the Adirondack hills, St. Lawrence’s remarkable location inspires an adventurous spirit. Our responsibility to preserve and protect our home is one we take deeply seriously. It resonates in every aspect of campus life--from our academic and residential buildings to our academic programming.

St. Lawrence is proud to be included in The Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges: 2019 Edition. This reflects our efforts to provide a healthy and sustainable quality of life for students, adhere to an environmentally responsible policy mindset, and prepare students to embrace and advocate for the clean-energy economy of the 21st century.

Outdoor Experiences

Both on campus and locally, St. Lawrence students constantly discover ways to learn from the landscape and have fun outdoors. Our campus is home to the second oldest Outing Club in the nation, and it’s members host numerous traditions and expeditions that welcome all students on outdoor adventures big and small. Meanwhile, some of the best hiking, skiing, and paddling that the northeast has to offer is only a short drive from campus.

Take a few minutes to learn about our robust Outdoor Program and check out the excursions you could encounter in our own backyard.

Here We Go Saints: Athletics at St. Lawrence

St. Lawrence students are vibrant and active in every season. They love to get outside and go just as much as they love cheering on their fellow Saints on (and off) the field, court, track, or rink.

The Saints Athletics Department includes 34 varsity programs which span both NCAA Division I (men's and women's ice hockey) and Division III, in addition to a few non-divisional and non-NCAA programs.

Roughly one-third of our students are varsity athletes, which creates a supportive environment to balance academic adventures with athletic endeavors. We also offer student-run club and intramural sports, an active Outing Club, and a range of activities —from yoga and meditation to fly fishing and sunrise hiking—through other student organizations.

Interested in learning more about our varsity teams and competing at the collegiate level? Visit Saints Athletics, click on your sport under the "Teams" tab, and then click on "Recruits" to fill out the recruiting form.
