John Dewey on Democracy and Teacher Education

Jeff Frank, assistant professor of education, has published an article on John Dewey’s philosophy of teacher education.  The article, “Realizing a Democratic Community of Teachers,” was an invited peer-reviewed contribution to a special issue celebrating the 100th anniversary of the publication of Dewey’s Democracy and Education. Frank argues that Dewey’s approach to teacher education highlights the importance of democratic collaboration, and suggests that this aspect of his thinking deserves more attention from philosophers of education.
