Class year:

My name is Katie Boynton and Biology has been a big part of my experience at St.Lawrence. Not only is it my major, but I am also the president of the Biology Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta and a tutor for students in General Biology and Genetics. I have been interested in the subject since I was very young and St. Lawrence has allowed me to pursue my interests fully. I've taken classes like Human Embryology, Comparative Animal Physiology, Human Anatomy, and Biochemistry and have found them all deeply engaging. I was even able to study the Neuroscience of Fear in Copenhagen, Denmark for three weeks. The sciences at SLU have also allowed me to prepare for a career in medicine as a Physician's Assistant. I participate in a program called Health Coaches where students are matched with patients from the local hospital in order to try and help them improve their health. I am also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership society and Phi Sigma Tau, the Philosophy Honor Society. And in my free time I volunteer once a week at a local farm where I learn the basics of sustainable agriculture and sometimes get to take care of newborn lambs. I eventually want to combine my love of service and my love of Biology to practice medicine in underserved areas, possibly even the North Country.
