Andy Warhol’s "Myths" Portfolio: Behind the Scenes
Photographs by Barbara J. Goldner
Barbara J. Goldner (1953-2010) was a photographer and publicist whose career included work for art galleries, individual artists, museums, and non-profit organizations. An artist in her own right, she established a studio and exhibited her work in New York and New Jersey. 'In the early 1980s, Barbara was given access to Andy Warhol’s studio during the production of his Myths portfolio, and she photographed Warhol, his models, and his assistants working to create the images that were used to make the final prints. Her photographs appear in several publications about Warhol and his work.
In 2014, Barbara’s husband, Harvey Meer ’64, donated the Goldner Art Books Collection to the University Libraries in her memory, and he continues to donate books and funds to expand it. In 2019, he donated the Myths photographs to be included in the University’s permanent collection.
The exhibition also includes original prints and posters by and about Andy Warhol from St. Lawrence University’s permanent collection, SUNY Potsdam's Art Museum, and by courtesy of F. Richard Beyer, SLU Class of ’66.
The gallery is free and open to the public. Hours: Monday-Thursday 12-8 pm, Friday and Saturday 12-5 pm. Closed on Sunday. http://www.stlawu.edu/gallery/exhibitions/
