“At my recent internship (at the Boys and Girls Club of Ogdensburg) I was in charge of morning and afternoon fitness and fun… assisted in meal preparation… read books to campers. My job title was “Camp Counselor” but in reality, I was much more of a mentor/big brother. This experience opened my eyes to several potential career paths that I could pursue with passion and a powerful sense of purpose. Having seen so many young people fall victim to the street, I have also had a deep sense of compassion for those living in underserved communities. I am so thankful to you, not just for the financial stability placed in my life this past summer. But for enabling me to escape from the East Atlanta Projects and all of the drug dealing, shootouts and utter despair that so many young Black men fall victim to. This experience has impacted my life in so many positive ways and has opened my eyes to opportunities that I am confident I can pursue and prosper in. Thank you from the bottom of my heart – you don’t know me, but I’ll never forget what you have done for me.”
