Marna Olsen Davis

Marna Olsen Davis '72

graduated with a degree in Sociology from St. Lawrence, and was active on the Orientation Committee, in the theatre, as an admissions tour guide, and in Kappa Delta Sigma. After St. Lawrence and a brief stint in the Boston area, she worked for Bowne & Company in New York City, and then at Bankers Trust Company in operations, the commercial banking training program, and eventually the corporate lending platform, covering companies in Tennessee, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Always valuing the importance of volunteerism, Marna has been very active in her local community, including her work at Common Cause, as an ESL teacher, as a docent at the Museum of the City of New York, and at her sons’ schools. She was an active fundraiser for “Sail to Prevail,” an adaptive sailing program for disabled adults and children in Newport, RI, and served on the board of the Greenwich Adult Day Care Center. She currently serves on the board of the Shelburne Museum (VT).

Marna and her husband, Chuck, started a foundation in the 1980s - The Charles and Marna Davis Foundation - supporting numerous educational and worthy causes. When their son, Tucker, was diagnosed with fibrolamellar cancer in 2008, their philanthropy had an added focus. Marna also serves as chair of the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation – a foundation started by Tucker, who ultimately died of this rare cancer at age 28 in 2010. She and Chuck contribute many hours and dollars to finding a cure for this killer cancer through their son’s foundation (www.fibrofoundation.org).

Marna has also been willing to volunteer for her alma mater, having served as a Laurentian Admissions Associate, career advisor, and on the reunion development committee. She and Chuck have opened their home in Connecticut for Laurentian receptions and events. The couple have a number of nieces and nephews who have gone to St. Lawrence… with more to come!
