I get asked all the time: “Why SLU?” “What made you decide to come here?” Quite frankly, I knew absolutely nothing about SLU when I decided that I wanted to come here. I didn’t know anything about academics, social life, athletics, or residential life.
The St. Lawrence Blog
Who is St. Lawrence University? We are a group of people with countless adventures and even more stories. The St. Lawrence Blog gives our students, faculty and staff the chance to tell their tales, in their own words and in their own way. Sharing these anecdotes in one place gives our community the chance to show how creative, daring and passionate we are about what we do. Alone, these stories are powerful; together they define St. Lawrence.

Surviving an Outdoor Major as an Indoor Kid
A ladybug scared me on the van ride back to St. Lawrence. To give myself some credit, there were multiple ladybugs and they were all very active. Every time I flinched, I apologized profusely to the rest of the geology lab students in the van.
The Zen Garden: The Fruit of a Class Vision
It’s not hard to find a peaceful spot on the St. Lawrence campus. I’ve spent countless afternoons beneath autumn-tinged trees, or reclined in an Adirondack chair on the quad, spending quiet moments to let the North County beauty sink in.
Did you know that St. Lawrence is the closest U.S. liberal arts college to a foreign capital?!

Annual Mount Titus Weekend and Rail Jam
Early in February, students at St. Lawrence University hit the snow for the annual Great Mount Titus Global Cool Down. The event is put on by the St.
Life as a Gainster
Gaines residence hall is on the outskirts of campus. And while some first-year students may have been annoyed with that (which I was at first), that distance gave me a closer knit group of friends than I thought possible and helped me find my voice.
92nd Annual Candlelight Service
The Candlelight Service is a tradition that has held strong for 92 years and counting. It is a cherished event for both the members of the St. Lawrence family and the Canton community.
Thelmo Reflections: A Year in Student Government
One year ago, I was elected president of the student body at St. Lawrence. It has been the best, worst, craziest, most stressful, amazing, wonderful, phenomenal year, and I have learned so much from it! I have loved it even when I’ve hated it and now that my term is ending, I am struggling to put into words what it has meant to me.
As a St. Lawrence hockey player, I think one of the most special experiences for myself has been the opportunity to put on the jersey each year and take the ice against Clarkson.
