Spending a semester on St. Lawrence's program in France was
one of the most significant experiences Jolie Roetter '04 has
had as a St. Lawrence student. She says, “I now have a more global
perspective,” and she notices how, both in and out of the classroom,
she views the world differently.
As a student ambassador and tour guide, she has been able to
promote the benefits of international study to both current and
prospective students. Roetter says, “No matter what your major
is, there is a way for you to fit in at least a semester on nearly
any of St. Lawrence's 14 abroad programs. The ability to understand
other cultures is one of the most important aspects of a liberal
arts education.”
Roetter has been able to combine her academic interests in an
independent study about the French actress Sarah Bernhardt. She
says, “My independent project allows me to combine both of my
majors and my minor into one project. I write in French, research
and read about France during the turn of the century and evaluate
the actress' impact on Europe and the rest of the world.”
“I am continually impressed by the activity of the student body
here,” says Roetter. “Laurentians really care about the community
and strive to make it the best that it can be.”
