| Kathryn L. Mullaney
Vice President for Finance and Treasurer
Kathryn L. Mullaney came to St. Lawrence
in September 1994 after working for 20 years for the General Electric
Company. She was involved with finance as a member of the Board
of Trustees at her alma mater, Union College ; seeing this area
as a possible career, she decided to seek work in higher education
and “was fortunate
enough that St. Lawrence was looking for a VP of finance at the
time.”
Mullaney is responsible for many of the financial aspects of
St. Lawrence, including the University’s operating budget,
investments, short-term treasury management, and evaluating the
financial status of the University. “I like to describe the
finance division as one part of the University that gets to see
the entire University at work,” she says. “It’s
the one place that the entire operation interacts in one way or
another.”
One of the most valuable assets Mullaney has experienced at St.
Lawrence is the people. “I’ve rarely had the opportunity
to work with people with whom I am such good friends,” she
says. “On the President’s staff, we have people who
are outstanding professionals and good at their jobs. At
the same time we truly enjoy each other’s company and look
forward to seeing each other outside of work. I have found a community
here that is welcoming and mutually supportive.”
Mullaney majored in biology at Union and then participated in
the Financial Management Program, which she calls “an in-house
MBA program,” at GE.
