| Cathy Crosby-Currie
Associate Professor
of Psychology
Cathy Crosby-Currie says her time as an undergraduate at Hamilton
College made her realize she loved psychology and wanted to teach
it in the future at a small liberal arts college in upstate New
York. After earning both her law and doctorate degrees, Crosby-Currie
says she now focuses her teaching responsibilities primarily on
family and public policy.
Crosby-Currie has published several articles about the relationship
between psychological and constitutional issues involving families
and children. She's working with St. Lawrence economics professor
Steve Horwitz to explore research on economics and psychology.
Crosby-Currie has also worked with the St. Lawrence Wellness Initiative
to promote healthy life choices by St. Lawrence students.
Crosby-Currie says, “A friend once referred to college as a time
when your mind explodes.” She also says her experiences as a student
made her realize she wanted to work in a similar environment. She
comments, “I have grown more and more sure of that decision as I
have grown more and more fond of my students and my colleagues at
St. Lawrence.” “ My free time these days is mostly devoted to being
with my family – my two-year-old son, Quinn, and my husband, Grant,” Crosby-Currie
explains. She is also a member of the University Chorus and says
her other hobbies include sewing, knitting and gardening. When asked
why she has remained at St. Lawrence, Crosby-Currie responds, “ Canton
may be isolated and SLU small, but I am much happier being part of
a community where, to paraphrase ‘Cheers' (the ‘Friends' of my generation
of college students), ‘everybody knows my name…'”
