| Alison Almasian
Senior
Associate Director of Admissions
At St. Lawrence for thirteen years, “I love what the University
is as an institution,” Alison Almasian says. “In school,
I learned to love learning and began to understand the value of
good relationships with teachers. I find the same sense of community
and commitment to learning here.”
At Georgetown University, Almasian was a tour guide, and during
her senior year she decided that she wanted to pursue admissions
work after graduation. Her mentor encouraged her to look at small
liberal arts colleges. She knew of many people from her hometown
who had gone to St. Lawrence, and when she arrived, she says, it
was a perfect fit.
Among her duties are supervising clerical staff, organizing fall
prospective student visit days, coordinating alumni recruitment
programs, and working on admissions publications. She also serves
on the Retention Committee, interacting with other faculty and
staff members to determine what factors affect students’ decisions
to stay or leave.
When asked to name the most valuable aspect of St. Lawrence,
Almasian recalls the time a prospective student from Maine missed
the bus to St. Lawrence when he arrived at the airport in Burlington,
Vt. She called an alumni volunteer in Burlington who knew of a
student who was home for the weekend. The student happily agreed
to drive the prospective student to Canton. “That is St.
Lawrence,” she says. She also says watching each new class
come together at the matriculation ceremony each year is very rewarding.
Almasian enjoys spending her spare time with her husband and
two daughters. |
