This event brings together recent SLU alumni, who will share about their varied experiences of being Asian, particularly in the United States.

The stories of the panelists are as diverse as the 22 million Asian Americans that make up the Asian population of this country.

Speaker bios:

Nicole Eigbrett (she/hers), Class of 2014

Nicole Eigbrett is a queer, transracial and transnational Chinese adoptee. Nicole is a community organizer who puts values into action to achieve impactful social change at the intersections of social, racial, and economic justice. From her time in the nonprofit sector, grassroots organizing, and the Massachusetts Legislature, she has several years experience in community empowerment, public policy, project management, and nonprofit communications and fundraising. Currently as the Director of Community Organizing at the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS), Nicole partners with low-income and immigrant residents to educate tenants on their rights, prevent evictions, and build power for the local housing justice movement. 

Nicole graduated magna cum laude from St. Lawrence in 2014 with a B.A. in Global Studies and the Multi-Language Major and a minor in Chinese Studies. She spent a semester each studying in France and China, and while on campus lived in the Habitat for Humanity Theme House. She was very engaged in community service, served as President of A.S.I.A., and played on the Ruckus Bus ultimate frisbee team.

Yanfei Mao is a second-year master’s student in clinical mental health counseling at Johns Hopkins University. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2020 with a major in psychology and a minor in music. As a counselor-in-training, she is passionate about working with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds with a focus on treating anxiety, trauma, and depression.

Daniil Kim, class of 2022, majored in English Literature and minored in Film and Representation Studies. He is currently based in NYC and works in Out of Home Advertising. Daniil is Korean by ethnicity, but was born and raised in Russia. Over the years at SLU, he had a chance to compare how these two experiences of Asian in Russia and Asian in the US intersect and differ. 

Linh Khanh Do, class of 2021. She graduated with a double major in psychology and business in liberal art. While in SLU, she served as the International House Coordinator and participated in various campus event such as Mental Wealth Days. She is currently a Master of Social Work Candidate at University of Houston. She is passionate about becoming a social worker/therapist who promotes mental health awareness and mental illness treatment through a racial equity and women empowerment lens.
