Each of my students submits a final portfolio of 20 images from the semester.  The students prepare all their own slides as well as use the confocal microscope to collect the images.  Each student selects their best 20 images for the portfolio, and select their VERY favorite of all 20 to submit to this contest. Slide preparation can be a fairly long process, depending on the sample used.  For instance, staining the brain sections is a three day process, whereas staining coverslips of cells takes two days, and the plant sections take about 24 hours.  Some images take under a minute to collect, some take an hour to collect, and most are somewhere in between.  The students have worked hard to learn these techniques, and they are excited to participate in this contest.

Please enjoy!!
