February 2022 Safety Committee Minutes

MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE HELD VIA ZOOM

ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2022 STARTING AT 8:00 AM.

Approval of the Minutes – Suna Stone and Bob Hance

New Business:

  1. St. Lawrence University Integrated Pest Management Plan: The draft Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPM), which now includes IPM in campus buildings in addition to Grounds, was approved by the Committee and will be posted on the Environmental Health & Safety web pages.  Marcus Sherburne presented the 2022 pesticide application plan for campus grounds to the committee.  There were no pesticide applications to the grounds in 2021. 
  1. Tara Tent brought an idea to the committee that when a cold weather warning goes out if there was also a piece on alcohol and the increased risk of harm from exposure. She is thinking with all of our cold weather snaps it would be good to add that piece again. Others seemed to agree because there was also just a student death at SUNY Oneonta that involved alcohol and exposure to extreme temperatures.
  1. ADA handrail at the chapel – planning still in progress.
  1. Emergency Response Plan is being revised by Paul Redfern and Pat Gagnon. We will be rolling out Guardian and Alertus to the campus in the near future.

Future Meetings:

The meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month: 3/4/22, 4/1/22 and 5/6/22. The meetings will be conducted via Zoom until in-person meetings are approved when conditions allow and then will be held in the Torrey Conference Room, located in the Diana Torrey Health and Counseling Center from 8am-9am.
