St. Lawrence University’s Office of University Communications uses Merit from readMedia to publicize student achievements. Students will receive special recognition when they make the dean’s list, study abroad, are named to an academic honor society, and much more.
As students, you will receive an announcement for your academic achievements and activities, and you can create an online profile – a Merit page – that you can use for internships, jobs and references after graduation. You can even share your achievements with friends and family through Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels.
How does it work?
Campus departments, clubs and organizations provide University Communications with a brief announcement about an achievement or recognition along with the names of students who earned it. The University Communications team will create a personalized story about the accomplishments and award “badges” to those students, which will then be published on the student’s individual Merit profile. Stories will also be sent to each student’s hometown newspaper for publication.
What is a badge?
A badge is a special symbol that will appear on the your Merit page for recognition of a particular achievement. For instance, if you’re named named to the dean’s list for four semesters, you’ll will receive a badge on your page each time you receive the honor. Badges accumulate for your entire college career, and you’ll continue to have access to your Merit pages after graduation.

How is Merit important for students?
Merit helps people who make decisions about internships, graduate school admissions and jobs find the “good stuff” about St. Lawrence students.
A Merit page also creates a positive online identity for post-graduation success. Many companies today research applicants online prior to hire. A student’s Merit page is a way for them to shine online.
Students who are featured will be notified through their St. Lawrence email address and encouraged to share their accomplishments with family and friends through social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter.
