
President Daniel F. Sullivan welcomed students, faculty, trustees and guests
to the groundbreaking for Phase I of
St. Lawrence's Science Project. Read
his remarks.

Chair of the Board of Trustees Lawrence Winston'60 welcomed guests and thanked
the faculty, students and staff in the planning process and the donors, to date,
to the project.

Gaines Professor of Psychology Thomas Greene, who has been the faculty project
leader for several years.

Trustee Sarah Johnson Redlich '82, major donor to the
project and for whom the buildings will be named as the Sarah Johnson Redlich
'82 Hall of Science.

Breaking ground for the project are Chair Winston, President Sullivan Trustee
Redlich, Professor of Biology Thomas Budd (who will be faculty project leader),
lead architect Richard Green and Professor Tom Greene.

Professor Tom Greene credited several students who
have been invaluable planning team members and project assistants. Three were
able to attend the ceremony: from left, Stephanie St. Joseph '05, Heather Ferguson
Lakatos '01 and Melissa Henrichon Fellows '01, whose research paper on sustainable
design provided direction for the project, which will seek LEED certification.
