I am sorry to share the sad news that a Laurentian of warm heart and great dedication, Alice Quackenbush, died on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Professor Mark Erickson helped me understand the role Alice played at the University as secretary of the geology department: “Alice was a wonderful presence in this community and this department for many years. She was more than our secretary. She was an important part of the many successes of this program and of the lives of students who found a home here. After attending the first six alumni conferences, her presence at St. Lawrence University Geology Alumni Conference 7 will be greatly missed. For her steadfast support, the geology alumni awarded her the William T. Elberty, Jr. Medal in 2007.”
Alice served St. Lawrence for 26 years, from 1969 to 1995, in several academic departments, including mathematics, chemistry, economics, philosophy and geology. She lived in Canton with her husband, Everett, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies.
When we have information about her family’s plans for services, we will communicate promptly.
