In the early 1980s Don was especially prominent in the handful of senior faculty who were never too busy to make a new colleague feel welcome and part of something important. Instead of just cordial small talk, he asked good questions and gave good advice. I can still hear echoes of his distinctive voice, and I will miss him.

I did not have Dr. Peckham for a professor, but I met him and his wife through their daughter, Laura. Laura and I spent time together on a SLU semester abroad program and we became good friends. Once I returned back to SLU the Peckhams invited me over for a delicious home cooked meal. We laughed and chatted throughout the evening; I felt as though I had known them both for years! I've since lost touch with Laura but want to extend my sincere condolences to her and her family. He was, indeed, a very special man and I know he will be missed by many.
