Re: In Memoriam: Innocent Mutetwa
'10
With deep sadness, I write to tell you that Innocent Mutetwa '10 passed
away Wednesday, June 13, at his home in Seke, Zimbabwe. Following traditional
ceremonies, he will be buried in Seke today, June 15.
Innocent had been on a medical leave from St. Lawrence since April,
but had planned to return to campus and his studies in January of next
year. Although we do not have many details about his death, it appears
to have been related to the medical conditions which resulted in his
withdrawal.
Innocent came to St. Lawrence through the United States Students Achievers
Program (USAP) in Zimbabwe, which identifies top students at local
schools and assists them with the admission process to colleges in
the United States. He was very enthusiastic about the opportunity to
study in the U.S., and at St. Lawrence, and shared photos with friends
at home of his life on campus, including the first snowfall that Innocent
experienced here. He was a member of Sprague First-Year College, which
was awarded the First-Year Cup at Moving-Up Day.
I know you share the grief and sadness Ann and I feel for his loss.
We extend to his family and friends our most heartfelt sympathy. We
will work with them to remember him appropriately on campus. When those
details are set, I will share them with you.
