New York Times Media Group has announced that Todd Haskell '90, executive
director of business development in The New York Times newspaper's
advertising department, has been promoted to the Media Group's newly
created position of vice president, business development, advertising.

Chadwick '70, president of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission,
was quoted in a recent edition of the Los Angeles Business Journal
as saying that his efforts to bring NFL football back to the city
may pay off very soon.

B. O'Callaghan '84 has joined the real estate firm of Cushman &
Wakefield in Westchester County, New York, as a senior director. Previously,
he was senior vice president of Albert B. Ashforth Company, a real
estate firm in Stamford, Connecticut.

Linear Retail, a retail real estate acquisition and operating company
in Burlington, Massachusetts.

of Canadian Studies
Robert Thacker is the subject of a major feature profile
in the Saturday, December 17, Ottawa
Citizen. The feature "The Man in Munro's Shadow" describes
Thacker's scholarship on Canadian writer Alice Munro.

Lawrence's participation in a $3.1 million interdisciplinary
biometrics research project funded by the National Science
Foundation with support from the Department of Homeland Security was
noted in a story on the physorg.com
Web site December 12. The site collects science, technology, physics
and space news. Assistant Professor of Mathematics,
Computer Science and Statistics Michael Shuckers coordinates St.
Lawrence's participation in this program. |

December 15 story in The
Christian Science Monitor, on the college selection process, encourages
students and parents to focus on what institutions have in place for
first-year students. The story includes reference to the Policy Center
on the First Year of College's listing of effective initiatives, which
includes St. Lawrence's First-Year
Program. The online version of the Monitor story
includes a link to the center's listings. |
St.
Lawrence's skiing
program was cited as among the best in the National Collegiate
Athletic Association in the December issue of Ski Racing magazine.

University's Sesquicentennial Celebration has begun and a dedicated
Web site is live, with regular updates planned. News Digest will

Sesquicentennial Fun Fact: Appleton Arena will
celebrate its 55th anniversary Jan. 6, 1951. Although Appleton
Arena is thought of as “the hockey rink,” the first
game played there, on Jan. 6, 1951, was a basketball game against
the University of Toronto, which St. Lawrence won, 66-58.
