New Book By SLU Prof Meant To Empower Client In Mental Health Treatment
A new book by a St. Lawrence University professor is aimed at putting the client first in the treatment of mental health conditions, encouraging professionals to see the client as the "unrecognized expert on their condition."

Jonathan Stopyra '13 Awarded Scholarship For Study In Denmark
Jonathan Stopyra '13, of Warwick, RI, has been awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship that will allow him to study in Denmark this summer. Stopyra is a performance and communication arts/global studies major, with a minor in gender studies.

Northstar Café Wins Dining Services Award
Managers of the Northstar Café on campus have been awarded the bronze medal in the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards competition. The award recognizes outstanding performance in the category of Retail Sales - Multiple Concepts/Marketplace for a medium-sized school.

Prof. Cowser Selected For NEH Seminar On Guthrie
Professor of English Bob Cowser has been selected to participate in National Endowment for the Humanitites (NEH) Summer Seminar for Faculty at SUNY Potsdam, on "Woody Guthrie and the American Folk Revival." The seminar takes place from June 5 through 28 and will be led by James Kimball, of SUNY Geneseo's music department.

Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honorary society, recently inducted four new members, Isabelle Caffry '12, Alex Knoll '13, Mykael Goodsell-SooTho '14 and Roelof Groenewald '14.

Language Honor Socieities Welcome 19 Students
Three honor societies for languages recently held induction ceremonies hosted by the modern languages and literatures department, with a total of 19 students being welcomed into the organizations. As part of the ceremonies, each student read a poem in their chosen language.

The Sustainability Semester, due to start in spring 2013, was the subject of a feature story in the May 13 Watertown Daily Times and Advance News.
WWNY/Channel 7 in Watertown ran a story on May 8 on the popularity of a cappella singing groups at colleges, and included St. Lawrence's co-ed group the UpBeats.
In a May 7 piece for The Daily Caller and an accompanying video from LearnLiberty.org, Dana Professor of Economics tackled the controversial question "are corporations people?"

Baseball Falls Two Runs Short of League Title, NCAA Bid
The great run of the baseball team came to an end in the final game of the Librty League playoffs Sunday, where they dropped a 3-1 decision to Skidmore at Tom Fay Field. The Saints, the top seed and regular-season champions, opened the double-elimination tournament with wins over Rochester (10-8) and RPI (11-7). They entered the finals needing to win one of two against Skidmore. Skidmore won the first game 7-5, setting up the final showdown. Track was at Oneonta State and the women were led by Carly
Stine '15 winning the 400 hurdles. For the men, Jamal Samaroo '15 set a school record in winning the triple jump, and joined the school record-setting 4x100 relay team, which also won.
