Eight students participated in the Washington Model Organization of American States (WMOAS) held in April, 2012. The group's advisor, Assistant Professor of Government Shelley McConnell, has been asked to join the board of directors of the organization that runs the program, the Institute for Democratic Dialogue in the Americas (IDDA), a not-for-profit dedicated to improving understanding about international relations in the Western Hemisphere. Eight new members were inducted to St. Lawrence's chapter of the national Earth science honor society Sigma Gamma Epsilon on February 29. Eta Xi Chapter was founded in 2006 and currently has 24 members. Membership is available to students who have completed at least 10 semester hours or 15 quarter-hours in Earth science courses and has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 system) in all Earth science courses, together with an overall GPA of 2.67 in all college courses. Women's Lacrosse Wins Three Games to improve to 7-4Women's lacrosse posted a trio of impressive wins last week, beating Clarkosn 13-5, Rochester 14-6 and RIT 16-11 to improve to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League. Men's lacrosse won both of its games, 12-5 over Messiah and 8-7 over Clarkson, and is now 10-1. Baseball saw its win streak end at 10 with a 5-1 loss to RPI Saturday, after winning three games from the Engineers to start the weekend with scores of 5-1, 6-4 and 6-4. Softball went 2-2 on a weekend trip to Rochester. Jake Fredericks '13 placed sixth in the 110 hurdles to lead the men's track team at the Bucknell Invitational. Women's track and field was paced by Jenna Hulton '12 coming in second in the 3000. Women's tennis beat RPI 8-1 and lost to Rochester 5-4. Men's tennis lost 8-1 to Rochester and 6-3 to RPI. Women's golf finished in a tie for sixth place at the Vassar Invitational. Men's golf was sixth at the NYU/Manhattanville Tournament, led by a second-place finish by Jack Whelan '15.
