Charles W. Appleton II men's ice hockey coach Joe Marsh has announced his retirement following a 26-year career as the Saints' coach, citing the time commitment for the continuation of treatment for a condition that prompted him to take a medical leave for the 2011-12 season. He will be replaced behind the bench by Greg Carvel '93, who will become head coach after sharing the coaching duties with Mike Hurlbut '89 this past season. Celebrate Brain Awareness Week with St. Lawrence University's fourth annual Brain Blast on Friday, March 23, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Johnson Hall of Science on campus. Morphographica, a joint art installation by biologist Alex Schreiber and bioarchaeologists Mindy Pitre and Pamela Mayne Correia, will be in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery from March 19 through June 2. There will be a lecture by the artists on Monday, April 9, at 7 p.m., in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center. The women's hockey team saw its season come to an end Saturday, losing a 6-3 decision at Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Saints scored three quick goals at the start of the second period for a 3-1 lead, but Boston rallied to tie it at the end of the second and took control in the third period.The NCAA Ski Championships were held in Bozeman, MT, and St. Lawrence's alpine skiing team saw Graham Scott '15 and Ashley-Kate Durham '13 each finish in the top 20 in the slalom. Caroline Carpenter '12 competed for the nordic skiing team, finishing 25th. Spring teams went south for the break last weekend. Baseball started 2-1, beating Mitchell and then splitting a doubleheader with Fredonia. Softball is 3-1, beating Salem State, Polytechnic Institute and Mount Mary, and losing to SUNY Brockport. Men's lacrosse improved to 2-0 with an 8-7 win over Montclair St. Women's tennis improved to 4-0 with a 7-2 win over New Paltz. More Saints Sports |
