Have an important final exam coming up? Maybe your test prep should include chewing some gum. St. Lawrence University Assistant Professor of Psychology Serge Onyper conducted a study that showed that students who chewed gum for five minutes before taking a test did better on the test than non-gum-chewing students. "Mastication-induced arousal" is credited for the boost, which lasted for about the first 20 minutes or so of testing. Results of the study were published in the journal Appetite. For more |

Women's Hockey Sweeps ECAC Weekend SeriesWomen's Hockey ended a three-game losing streak in style last weekend, defeating Union 3-1 and RPI 6-3 at Appleton Arena. Men's hockey was on the road and lost 1-0 at Cornell and 6-2 at Colgate. Men's basketball split a weekend road trip to end the first semester, losing at Ithaca 89-80 and winning at Elmira 54-47. Garrett Sharlow '12 and Ralph Temgoua '12 each reached the 1,000-point mark. Women's basketball had identical results, losing at Ithaca 67-49 and winning at Elmira 63-51. Men's squash defeated Columbia 7-2, but dropped a 9-0 decision to 6th-ranked Cornell. Women's squash lost at Cornell and Columbia. Swimming competed at the LIberty League Championships, with the women placing third and the men sixth. Track and field hosted the Saints Can-Am Classic, with the men taking first place and the women placing second. More Saints Sports |
