A team from Potsdam Central School won the 67th Annual Pi Mu Epsilon Interscholastic Mathematics Contest, held recently at St. Lawrence University and sponsored by the University's mathematics, computer science and statistics department and the local chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honorary.

Music For Good Friday In Noon Organ Recital At SLU
"Music for Good Friday" is the theme for the next organ recital at the lunch hour in St. Lawrence University's Gunnison Memorial Chapel, featuring Musician-in-Residence Sondra Goldsmith Proctor and the Ad Hoc Singers, at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Parking is available adjacent to the chapel.

Talk At St. Lawrence Explains Marcellus Shale
Sedimentary geologist Chuck Ver Straeten, of the New York State Museum, will give a talk called "The Geological Story of the Marcellus 'Shale'" on Thursday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomer Auditorium, Brown Hall, at St. Lawrence University. The Susan Caroline Ferguson Lecture in Geology, it is open to the public, free of charge.

America's Middle East Policy Topic For SLU Lecture
Aaron Miller, Woodrow Wilson Center public policy scholar, will give a talk titled "Arab Spring/Winter: Implications for America's Middle East Policy" on Wednesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall, Room 218, at St. Lawrence University. The event, part of the University's Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.

The "Wizard of Oz"-themed dinner in Dana that welcomed students to campus in the fall was the subject of a story in the April 2011 issue of On-Campus Hospitality magazine.
An essay by President William Fox, "A University President Speaks Through Verse," was published in The Huffington Post on April 14, 2011, about how the president uses poetry in his talks with Laurentians. Originally published in Inside Higher Ed, the piece was also quoted in "The Eloquent Woman" blog, with tips on using poetry in speeches.
Mike Petroni '12 was interviewed by YNN/Channel 10 for an April 13, 2011 story about how an environmental studies class at St. Lawrence has become involved in efforts to save an historic dam in Croghan, New York.
St. Lawrence's Richard F. Brush Art Gallery, and its collaboration with ARTstor, was featured in the ARTstor newsletter April 11, 2011, in a story about the nearly 200 images of African textiles, contemporary Inuit prints and drawings, and Vietnam War-era photography in its Digital Library.
The Watertown Times published recent feature stories about stories about a student-initiated peer-review journal, an Earth Fest planned by Omicron Delta Kappa, "bee week" events on campus and the women's hockey team's Be the Match bone-marrow registration drive.

Seniors Cap Perfect Careers at Liberty League Championships
Two seniors heading towards the finish line of storied careers each stayed unbeaten in their events at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at St. Lawrence. Dan Ramsey '11 won his fourth career title in the 5000 for the men's track team, which finished second. Other champions for the Saint men were Chris Funch '11 in the steeplechase, Andy Fisher '13 in the 200, Tom Lehmann '14 in the triple jump, and the 4x800 relay team. For the women's track team, Wendy Pavlus '11 also completed a four-year unbeaten streak in the 5000, and also won the 1500 for the Saints, who were also second as a team. Other SLU winners were the 4x800 relay, Kelsey Rebehn '11 in the 400, Hannah Kinsey '14 in the 100, Amanda Moreland '14 in the steeplechase and the 4x100 relay. Baseball won all three of its home games over Vassar, 8-3, 6-5 and 5-4, to run its win streak to four games. Adrian Bouthot '12 placed fourth as men's golf was third at the SUNY Delhi Invitational. Women's golf was 11th at the Amherst Invitational, led by Aimee Caligiore '13 in 10th place. Men's lacrosse bounced back from losses to Clarkson (11-4) and Vassar (5-4) to defeat Ithaca 9-5 Sunday. Women's lacrosse lost 9-7 to No. 2-ranked Hamilton, after beating Clarkson 18-11 earlier in the week. Men's crew swept its races against Hamilton and Union.
