St. Lawrence University To Launch Semester Program In New York City
St. Lawrence University students will soon have an added option for off-campus study in a place very different from its Canton campus: New York City. Beginning in the spring 2012 semester, students will have the opportunity to participate in a finance or arts internship in New York, along with rigorous academic study with St. Lawrence faculty.

Tom Evelyn Named Vice President For Communications At St. Lawrence
Tom Evelyn, a senior communications leader at Bucknell University who has more than 19 years of experience in higher education communications and journalism, has been named vice president for communications at St. Lawrence University, President William L. Fox announced today. Evelyn will begin his duties at St. Lawrence on June 20.

Three St. Lawrence Profs Awarded Grants By NYPA Research & Education Fund
Three St. Lawrence University professors have been awarded grants by the New York Power Authority's St. Lawrence River Research and Education Fund for two projects that will begin this summer. The fund supports environmental research and environmental education projects relating to the ecology of the St. Lawrence River watershed.

Birdsong Associate Professor of Performance and Communication Arts Rebecca Daniels has been named associate dean of the first year at St. Lawrence University, beginning in the summer. In the position, she will lead and have administrative responsibility for all aspects of the University's First-Year Program.

Author Of Novel Set In Watertown To Speak At St. Lawrence
Author Brock Clarke, whose 2010 novel Exley is set in Watertown, will speak and read from his work in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, April 7, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the St. Lawrence Writers Series, is open to the public, free of charge.

"Tissue Engineering: The Key to Eternal Life?" is the topic of a talk by Gabor Forgacs, George H. Vineyard Professor of Biophysics at the University of Missouri and executive and scientific director of the Shipley Innovation Center at Clarkson University, on Wednesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in Bloomer Auditorium, Brown Hall, St. Lawrence University. The event, part of the University's Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.

Jillian Reich '11, of Mendon, VT, presented research at the 241st American Chemical Society Meeting and Exposition in Anaheim, California, in March. The meeting hosted over 12,000 chemical scientists, engineers and professionals from across the world.

Assistant Professor of History Howard Eissenstat was quoted in a March 31, 2011, Associated Press story on how Turkey is dealing with instability in the Mideast. The story was picked up by about 100 news organizations, including The Washington Post and the Huffington Post.
North Country Public Radio offered a preview of the keynote address for the 2011 North Country Symposium with an April 4, 2011, interview with Ben Hewitt, about how the town of Hardwick, Vermont, transformed itself.
Nathan Rotich '14 and Khadeeja Hamid '11, both awarded Projects for Peace grants, were the subjects of a feature story in the Advance-News on April 3, 2011.
St. Lawrence's second annual "Bach Marathon" was the subject of a feature story in the Watertown Daily Times on March 31, 2011.

Baseball goes 3-2 on the Week
Baseball
doubled its win total for the season this week by winning three of five games. The Saints opened the week with a 6-3 win over Oswego, and then split a pair of double-headers at Union over the weekend. Union posted 4-2 and 6-1 wins, while St. Lawrence won 17-2 and 12-10. Softball split both of its double-headers, beating Elmira 4-3 after losing the first game 6-5 Thursday, and then beating Potsdam State 6-5 after losing the opener 4-3. Women's tennis saw its season-opening unbeaten streak end Sunday, losing at Rochester 8-1. The Saints beat Nazareth 9-0 Saturday. Men's tennis also beat Nazareth 9-0, but lost to Rochester 7-2. Women's lacrosse beat Rochester 15-7 on Saturday after dropping games at William Smith (14-7) and Geneseo (16-4). Men's lacrosse routed Potsdam 13-2 on Tuesday, but was dumped by No. 19 Skidmore 16-10 Saturday.

Senior captain Aaron Bogosian and sophomore forward Kyle Flanagan shared the Dr. Stuart A. Winning Most Valuable Player Award to highlight the 2011 Friends of St. Lawrence Hockey Recognition Banquet at The Club in Canton on Sunday night.
