Canton Winterfest Continues This Week
Canton's Winterfest continues through Saturday, February 19, with a variety of events scheduled throughout the community. The full schedule is available online.
|Gospel Music Workshop At SLU Feb. 23-26; Concert Feb. 26
The eighth annual "Got Spirit?" gospel music workshop and concert, featuring Grammy and Stellar Award-nominated Chicago Mass Choir member William R. Hamilton, will take place Wednesday through Saturday, February 23 through 26, at St. Lawrence University.
|Independent Film Maker Hugo Perez Speaking At St. Lawrence
Hugo Perez, a producer and director of independent films, will give a presentation titled "Portrait of the Cuban American Artist as a Young New York Filmmaker" on Thursday, February 24, at 4:30 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall at St. Lawrence University. The event, which includes a lecture and film screening, is open to the public, free of charge. It is presented with assistance from the Alcoa Foundation Cultural Affairs Program Fund.
|'African-American Heritage' Is Theme For Noon Organ Recital At St. Lawrence
"Our African-American Heritage" is the theme for the next organ recital at the lunch hour in St. Lawrence University's Gunnsion Memorial Chapel, featuring Musician-in-Residence Sondra Goldsmith Proctor and the Ad Hoc Singers, at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, February 25. Parking is available adjacent to the chapel.

Professor of English Bob Cowser's book Green Fields: Crime, Punishment and a Boyhood Between was reviewed positively in the December 15, 2010 issue of Library Journal. The book also received a positive review in Publishers Weekly and the literary journal Fourth Genre.
|An interview with Claire Puccia Parham '90, about the book she wrote on the history of the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, is on the Web site Today's Authors. In the interview, Parham discusses how the book began with interviews she conducted while an undergraduate at St. Lawrence.
|The Web site OnlineCollege.org, in an article about "the coolest dorm rooms in the country," notes the inclusion of the Adirondack Semester's yurts in U.S. News & World Report's list of "cool dorms."
|The Watertown Daily Times ran a feature story about a faculty-student team remotely operating a telescope in Puerto Rico from campus on February 9, 2010, and a story about Grace Ochieng' '12 participating in a UN conference on advocacy for women's issues on February 8, 2010.

Track teams Dominate Liberty League Indoor Championships
The St. Lawrence men's and women's track teams continued their dominance of Liberty League competition this weekend at Hamilton College, as they both won league indoor team titles. For the women's team, which has won 11 indoor team titles now, Wendy Pavlus '11 won two individual championships; Victoria Bean '14 won the long and triple jumps; and Hannah Kinsey '14 won both sprint events and anchored the winning 4x200 relay. The men made it seven titles, led by Dan Ramsey '11 and Will Mosenthal '11, who won individual races and teamed to help the Saints win the distance medley relay. Men's hockey opened the weekend with an upset of No. 2-ranked Yale, 3-2, but came out flat Saturday and dropped a 5-1 decision to Brown at Appleton Arena. Women's hockey lost its series, 3-2 to Dartmouth and 3-2 in overtime to No. 10 Harvard. Men's basketball beat Hobart, 66-64, but dropped a 60-53 decision to Hamilton. Women's basketball beat Hamilton 55-41, but lost 81-76 to William Smith in overtime. Ashley-Kate Durham '13 paced the alpine ski team with an eighth-place finish, while Steven Vargo '11 was the top finisher for the nordic team at Dartmouth.
