Robin Lock Re-Appointed To Burry Professorship In Statistics At SLU
St. Lawrence University Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics Robin H. Lock has been re-appointed to a second term as Jack and Sylvia Burry Professor of Statistics. The Burry Professorship was established in 2000 by John Burry Jr. '53 and Sylvia Burry to support an outstanding member of the department who excels in teaching and scholarship in statistics.

Modern Languages and Literatures Professor Emerita Rita Goldberg was honored by the St. Lawrence County Historial Association as its Volunteer of the Year at the association's 63rd Annual Membership Meeting, held in November.

Chris Phelps '91 Completes Undefeated First Season At Salisbury
Chris Phelps '91 completed an undefeated first season as head football coach for the Salisbury School, in Salisbury, Connecticut. The undefeated Crimson Knights won the Erickson League Championship and defeated Lawrence Academy (also undefeated) for the New England Championship Saturday, 24-21.

Dana Professor of Economics Steven Horwitz was quoted in the Toronto Globe & Mail and the Washington, D.C., paper The Hill on Sunday, November 21, 2010, as well as the Boston Herald on November 22, 2010, regarding expanded security efforts by the TSA.

 

 

 

Efforts by Heather Christie '11 to help areas of Indonesia affected by the eruption of a volcano were detailed in a feature story in the Watertown Daily Times on November 21, 2010. Christie studied in Indonesia during her sophomore year.

Wendy Pavlus '11 Defends NCAA Cross Country Crown, Men Place Third
Wendy Pavlus '11 capped one of the great individual careers in SLU women's cross country history Saturday by winning the NCAA Division III individual title for the second straight year. Men's cross country, led by Steve Kiplagat '12's fourth-place finish, claimed third place in the team competition. Women's hockey ended a three-game week with wins at Yale (3-1) and Brown (5-2), after losing at Clarkson 4-1 on Tuesday. Men's hockey also lost at rival Clarkson, 3-1, on Saturday. Women's basketball opened its season with three wins. The Saints downed SUNY Potsdam 74-48 and then claimed the RIT Tournament title by beating the Albany School of Pharmacy 73-35 and the host team 97-67. Men's basketball started with a 92-50 rout of Paul Smith's, but lost both of its games at the Chuck Resler Tournament to Bates and the University of Rochester. Men's squash placed second at the Liberty League Championships, winning two of three matches at Vassar. Riding won its home show Saturday.
