St. Lawrence Student Awarded Fulbright Teaching Assistantship
St. Lawrence University senior Joanna Fassett, of Adams Center, has been awarded an English Teaching Assistantship from the Institute of International Education, the Fulbright Program. She will be teaching English in India for nine months through the program.

University Awarded Grant For Science Equipment
St. Lawrence University has received a federal grant of $179,336, awarded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Congressman Bill Owens announced the award, which will fund equipment upgrades in biology and computer science, is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

Moving-Up Day 2010 Winners Announced
Moving-Up Day 2010, celebrating student achievements in academics and co-curricular activities, took place on campus April 23. It is a campus tradition dating from 1869, when it began as "Tree Holiday," so declared by then-President Richard Fisk.

Bruce Weiner Awarded Piskor Lectureship At St. Lawrence
St. Lawrence University Professor of English Bruce Weiner has been awarded the Frank P. Piskor Faculty Lectureship for 2010. Next year, he will deliver a campus lecture on the topic "Homelessness and National Identity in Nathaniel Hawthorne's Fiction and Travel Writing."

Students, Faculty Present Research At Math, Computing Conferences
Students and faculty in the mathematics, computer science and statistics department attended two conferences held the weekend of April 16 and 17. Seventeen students and eight faculty/staff members participated in the Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (HRUMC) in New Hampshire, where 11 students and two faculty members presented research, and 11 students and three faculty members traveled to the University of Hartford to attend the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSCNE).

Emily Gowdey-Backus '10 Shares Photos Of Great-Grandfather's Work
While conducting some research, senior history major Emily Gowdey-Backus discovered a family connection to her academic work. She put together a Web site for the department of the photographs of her great-grandfather, C.C. Gowdey, conducting research just after the turn of the 20th century.

Men's, Women's Crew Shine at States
Men's crew advanced to the grand finals in the novice eight and finished third at the New York State Championships. The varsity eight boat finished fifth. For the women's crew team, the varsity eight and second varsity eight boats each placed second at states. Men's lacrosse nabbed the final spot in the Liberty League tournament after a 9-4 win over Hamilton. The tournament will be at RPI this weekend. Women's lacrosse ended its regular season with a tough 10-9 overtime loss to St. John Fisher. Baseball split a pair of double-headers with RPI and head into a four-game series with Clarkson with an 18-17 record. Softball saw its season end after being swept by Skidmore and Union. Women's track competed at the state meet and were led by Alyssa Pirinelli '10 with wins in the hammer throw and discus. Wendy Pavlus '11 set a school record in winning the 3000 meter steeplechase. For men's track, Dan Ramsey '11, John Johnston '12 and the 4x800 relay team won state titles.
