Kirk & Anne Douglas Add $1 Million To Scholarship At St. Lawrence
Film legend Kirk Douglas, St. Lawrence University Class of 1939, and his wife, Anne, have enhanced the scholarship fund at the University created by them in 1999, with an additional gift of $1 million, provided through the Douglas Foundation.

Two St. Lawrence students, Ryan Littlefield '10 and Peter Tucker '09, were among the seven undergraduates from four colleges who participated in an intensive four-day Adirondack Park Stewardship Training program through the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks.

Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures Roy C. Caldwell has written a novel, The Springfield Story,
published in April 2008 by Authorhouse. It is described as "a short satirical novel, loosely inspired by the first chapters of Candide
Richard Baltz '74 Named Veterans Health Care Center Director
Richard J. Baltz '74 has been appointed director of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. He is responsible for the daily operations of the Audie L. Murphy Division, Kerrville Division, South Texas VA Health Care Center at Harlingen and the Satellite Clinic Division, which includes six clinics.

- St. Lawrence University was named a Catalyst for Change in an article in the July 27 New York Times Education Life supplement, which listed seven colleges whose sustainability efforts are admirable. St. Lawrence, Dartmouth, Brown and M.I.T. are among the other colleges cited. UNPLUGGING: In a program begun last fall by the student government, dorm rooms at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., are graded for greenness – number of appliances plugged in, computer energy settings, recycling facilities, lighting and water use. On a scale of 0 to 95, most rooms score 38 to 56, with appliances and electronics the most common villains. High scorers, -- above 70 – get green stars on their doors; low scorers get suggestions on how to do better.

Here's an excerpt from Blake's blog: So it's 3:10pm on a beautiful Friday afternoon with only an hour and fifty minutes left until THE WEEKEND! Ever since July 12th we have been working Saturdays and this just so happens to be my first Saturday off. What to do, what to do...? Well, actually now that you've asked I have decided to treat myself by taking a trip to Montreal so I can see a few friends from school. Here I will go out to dinner, visit 'Old Montreal' where French can be heard around every corner, possibly play some pick up hockey and of course visit a few dance floors awaiting my American arrival.
