At its Commencement ceremony held on Sunday, May 20, St. Lawrence University President Daniel F. Sullivan blasted U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, calling a recent report issued by a commission she appointed "a national embarrassment." Sullivan has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Commission
on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu). cIcu represents
the chief executives of the more than 100 independent (private, not-for-profit)
colleges and universities in New York State on issues of public policy. For more

Phase II of the arts renovation project, completed this spring, was the focus of a dedication ceremony on Friday, May 18, with donors who made the spaces possible on hand for recognition. Associate Professor of Performance and Communication Arts Randall
T. Hill was the recipient of this year's Owen D. Young Outstanding
Faculty Award, as voted by members of the senior class. The award
is the only one given to faculty that is chosen by students. For more

| The Syracuse Post-Standard carried a story May 20 about plans by Assistant Registrar Kevin MacKenzie and a friend to scale all 46 "high peaks" of the Adirondacks in nine days in July, as a fund-raiser for the neo-natal unit of a Syracuse hospital.
Kathleen Buckley was quoted in a story about growing interest in
spirituality on college campuses in the Syracuse, N.Y. Post-Standard on
