and Chung are named Truman Scholars, St. Lawrence has its first
Truman recipients
Jon Cardinal '08 and Charlotta Chung '08 are among the 65 students from 56 U.S.
colleges and universities selected for the highly prestigious 2007 Truman Scholars
program, elected by 18 independent selection panels on the basis of leadership
potential, intellectual ability and likelihood of making a difference. Jon and Charlotta are two of three New York State residents to receive the Truman Scholarship, the third recipient attends Harvard University.

Honorary degree recipients
announced for Commencement 2007
Novelist Jane Hamilton, surgeon Robert Montgomery '82 and educational leader
Jeanne Narum will receive honorary degrees and offer remarks at St. Lawrence
University's 2007 Commencement ceremony, Sunday, May 20, at 10 a.m. on Creasy
Commencement Commons on campus, or Appleton Arena in the event of inclement weather.Read more about our honorees |

research at conference
Brian Hanson '07, of White River Junction, VT, and Visiting Instructor
in Geology Diane Burns gave a research presentation at the 42nd annual meeting
of the Northeastern Section of the Geological Society of America, held March
12-14, 2007, in Durham, NH.

will deliver 2007 Piskor lecture
The 2007 Frank P. Piskor Faculty Lecture at St. Lawrence University, "Producing
Pathology through the Pedagogy of Purity: Childhood Sexuality and the Social
Purity Movement," will be given by Associate Professor of Gender Studies
R. Danielle Egan on Monday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Herring-Cole Hall. The event,
followed by a reception, is open to the public, free of charge.

"The Language of Comics," an exhibition of original drawings from Jessica
Abel's La Perdida and Matt Madden's 99 Ways to Tell A Story: Exercises
in Style - both graphic novels - is on exhibition in the Richard F. Brush
Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University through Wednesday, May 2.

Malaquias plans
book discussion
The Friends of Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries at St. Lawrence University
will celebrate the publication of Rebels and Robbers: Violence in Post-Colonial
Angola, by Associate Professor of Government Assis Malaquias with an event
on Friday, April 6, at 4 p.m. in the Josephine Young Room of Owen D. Young Library.
Malaquias will speak at the celebration, which is open to the public, free of
charge.

Organist Sondra Goldsmith Proctor will offer a free concert of music for Good
Friday on Friday, April 6, beginning at 12:15 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel

Athletics News
Six
members of the riding team advanced to the Zone
II Championships with strong performance at regionals hosted by St.
Lawrence. Men's lacrosse, ranked 13th in the country, won three games
by a combined 49-12 last week. Baseball went 2-2 against nationally-ranked
RPI over the weekend.
