"We
are on the move. We must remain on the move." With these words,
University President Daniel F. Sullivan announced the kick-off of
Momentum St. Lawrence, a campaign to raise
$200 million by December 31, 2010. He added that over $86
million has already been raised toward the goal.
The objectives: Securing Our Future through Endowment Growth:

Enhancing Facilities for Optimal Student Benefit: $45
million
Energizing Today's St. Lawrence through the St. Lawrence
Fund: $35 million

Lawrence University Associate Professor of English Bob Cowser Jr.
let readers in on the world of semi-pro football in his last memoir,
and turns to his formative years in Tennessee, Louisiana and Nebraska
in his latest, Scorekeeping: Essays from Home. The book is
out October 16 from the University of South Carolina Press. Read

former St. Lawrence University professor and an alumna are the co-presenters
of the 2006 Rabbi Seymour Siegel Memorial Lecture, on the topic "A
Menorah in the Wilderness: The Jewish Experience at St. Lawrence."
The event will be on Monday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Common
Room of Sykes Residence Hall.

Friends of Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries will celebrate the
2005 publication of the book Escenas En Conflicto: El Teatro Español
E Italiano Desde Los Márgenes Del Barroco (Scenes
in Conflict: The Spanish and Italian Theater From The Margins of the
Baroque) by Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures
Marcella Salvi with a reception on Friday, November 3, at 4 p.m. in
the Josephine Young Room of Owen D. Young Library. Salvi will speak
at the event.

Poet Quraysh Ali Lansana, director
of the Gwendolyn Brooks Center for Black Literature and Creative
Writing at Chicago State University, will speak and read from recent
works in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, November
2, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event,
part of the University's Writers Series, is open to the public, free
of charge.

Geological Society of America, October 22 through 25 in Philadelphia,
