Robert M. and Esther Thompson raised their 10 children on a family-owned
dairy farm in Lisbon, and helped to support their children's higher
education for 55 years. If that's not admirable enough, they now
have created a family foundation and through the Foundation have
established funds at St. Lawrence University to benefit its University
Fellows program and Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership.

Zane
Buckingham '06 of Beaver Falls, NY, finished sixth in the 2006 NCAA
Division III Decathlon Championship at Benedictine College in Illinois,
turning in the 71st All America performance by a Saint male competitor
since 1974. Zane, who finished with 6,581 points, becomes the second
Saint multi-event athlete to earn All America and the first decathlete.
Reilli Liiva '98 was a two-time heptathlon All America for the Saint

| A total of 187 runners
participated in the third annual Canton-St. Lawrence University Race
Weekend, held May 6, along with over 100 area citizens and St. Lawrence
students who volunteered. The day included the Canton-Potsdam Hospital
Marathon, the St. Lawrence County Dunkin' Donuts Half-Marathon and
the Wellness Initiative 5K. Runners from the local area, Canada, and
from as far away as California and Wisconsin participated. Read

Alumni in the News

Ray Shero '84 has been named the new general manager of the Pittsburgh
Penguins hockey team. The announcement was made May 25; he has been
signed to a five-year contract. Read

The Spring 2006 issue of Liberal Education, the journal of
the Association of American Colleges and Universities, includes an
article by Vice President of the University and Dean of Academic Affairs
Grant Cornwell and Professor of English/Chair of Global Studies Eve
Stoddard, titled "Freedom, Diversity, and Global Citizenship,"
and an essay by President Daniel Sullivan, titled "Milton's Areopagitica
and Freedom of Speech on Campus."

Sesquicentennial
News:
The all-class Sesquicentennial Reunion begins this
Thursday, June 1, with alumni from virtually every class year from
1935 to 2006 expected to attend. Reunion is the final big event
in St. Lawrence's Sesquicentennial year. The Sesquicentennial web
site will remain active throughout the summer, and will be re-cast
in the fall to preserve the great material assembled there. Reunion
