St. Lawrence University was chartered by the state of New York on April 3, 1856.

In honor of St. Lawrence's sesquicentennial year, all Laurentians were invited to celebrate the 150th birthday of St. Lawrence with events across the country. The campus event took place in Gunnison Chapel, with presentations by students, music by the Laurentian Parlor Singers and a reception with cupcakes and punch.
