The
1998-99 renovation of Owen D. Young Library created electronic classrooms
for library instruction, increased seating and additional group study
space, and expanded capacity for the storage of collections. The library
is a wireless access node. The University's Writing
Center resides in
the library as well. Owen D. Young Library was built in 1959, had an
addition and renovation done in
1980.
Along with the Launders Science Library in Madill Hall, the libraries
provide access to over 500,000 books, 370,000 government documents and
a microform collection of over 550,000 items. The library acquires more
than 10,000 volumes annually and maintains a journal collection of 2,000
current subscriptions. In addition to the online catalog, ODYsseus,
the library provides access to the world's scholarship by means of a
web site that connects students to local networked databases as well
as to the Internet.
