Undergraduate Summerterm Information

When is Summerterm?
St. Lawrence plans ONE undergraduate Summerterm session in 2010: June 1, 2011 - July 1, 2011.

What credit can I get?
Most undergraduate courses are considered one unit (3.6 credit hours). Some courses count toward St. Lawrence distribution requirements for the B.A. or B.S. degree.

Can I enroll if I'm not a St. Lawrence student?
Yes, please apply to Summerterm as a special student first.

How many courses can I take?
Two per session, including independent study or projects. Students must petition to take a third course. Contact Lorie MacKenzie, Assistant Dean of Academic Administration & Director of Summerterm in Vilas 103, 315-229-5998.

What's the class size?
Class size will typically be no less than 5 and no more than 10. The benefits? Careful attention from your professors, an opportunity for intensive learning, close cooperation with classmates.

What's the cancellation policy?
Any regular course with fewer than five St. Lawrence students registered at the end of the second day of classes likely will not be continued; if that happens, you can register for another course. Special Program courses will be cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met or, in certain circumstances, if on-site approvals are not obtained.

Where will I live and eat?
Students are encouraged to live on campus but are permitted to live off campus during Summerterm. IMPORTANT: There will be no meal plan available this year. All students are encouraged to put money on their CWA and can use it in the on-campus dining facilities, or off campus. Click here for Dining Services schedule. For a list of locations that you can use your CWA off campus, please click here.

Things to bring: phone, linens, reading lamp, TV for campus cable network, fan for hot nights, blanket for cooler nights, popcorn for snacking, your sense of adventure for great experience. Things not to bring: animals.

Housing preference forms will be available from the Residence Life Office office April 1 and are due by May 3rd for class year priority consideration when assigning rooms. Students whose housing preference forms are received after May 3rd will be housed in remaining rooms according to the date their form is received.

Students check in at the Residence Life Office (Student Center 230) between noon and 4:00 p.m. on the day before classes begin for either session.

Can I get help with my writing in the summer?
Yes, at the Munn Word Studio, ODY Library (hours and days will be posted at the library).

Can I get a job, too?
If you want to check out the options for working on campus, contact the financial aid office. Job postings are available there.
